← All Ford Mustang generations
NHTSA complaints per catalog listing run from 0.82 for 2021 (55 complaints across 67 listings) to 3.33 for 2015 (439 across 132), against a generation median of 1.84. The highest year, 2015, is 1.8 times that median. No year reaches the 2.0x our rule needs together with an above-median ad share and 30 or more listings, so nothing is flagged. Our catalog files Mustang Mach-E listings under the Mustang name from 2021; we removed them from the per-listing denominators here, and NHTSA keeps Mach-E complaints under a separate model name, so they are not in the complaint counts. 2023 has no NHTSA complaint count in our data, so it has no rate and cannot be flagged.

| No mileage found | MT82 manual: sloppy shifter, clutch line | Not verified | A Mustang6G owner post says the only real issue on a 2015-2017 MT82 is a sloppy shifter. CJ Pony Parts, which sells upgrades, says the stock clutch fluid line is flimsy and can contribute to a sticking pedal. Both are search snippets. |
| No mileage found | 10-speed automatic and 2.3L EcoBoost | Not verified | APEX Tech Nation (a repair site) says the problems on 2016-2024 Mustangs concentrate in the 10-speed automatic and the 2.3L EcoBoost. NHTSA recall 18V213 covers 2018 cars with the 10-speed, and 15V339 covers 2015 cars with the 2.3L fuel tank. We found no cost. |

No year in this generation was flagged. A year is flagged by our rule only when all three hold: (1) its NHTSA complaints per catalog listing is at least 2.0x the median for its generation, (2) the share of ads that mention a problem is above the generation median, and (3) we track at least 30 listings for that year. The cutoff was fixed before we looked. Ad mentions are not failures, and a flag is a reason to inspect harder, not a verdict on any one car. We also re-ran the ad test with the 'rust' flaw left out, because the ad reader counts phrases like 'no rust' as mentions, and publish a flag only if it passes both ways.

We don't tell you to skip a year; our fixed rule flags none. Third-party lists name 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016. In our data 2006 has 4.87 complaints per listing (575 complaints across 118 listings), 2015 has 3.33 (439 complaints across 132 listings) and 2016 has 2.88, each under the 2.0x cutoff against its generation median. 2011 and 2012 have no ad-mention data, so our ad test cannot run on them.
On the 2005-2008 4.6L 3V V8, the two-piece spark plug can snap in the cylinder head when removed. CarScout puts extraction at $400-$1,500 per cylinder, and $2,500-$4,000 if a head has to come off; one 2006 owner paid $95 plus a $100 tow for a single plug. MustangForums and aa1car cite Ford TSB 08-7-6 (April 2008) for the removal procedure. These costs are retailer-blog and owner figures, not shop price lists.
The 1996-2001 4.6L V8 used an all-plastic intake manifold with a plastic coolant crossover that cracks, according to Go-Parts, and a Corral.net poster says 1999-2001 crossovers leak at the thermostat housing. Owner posts from 1996 and 2002 put the repair at about $400-$445, which are old prices. We could not verify a Ford recall.
We don't rank engines. APEX Tech Nation says the problems on 2016-2024 Mustangs concentrate in the 10-speed automatic and the 2.3L EcoBoost, which is one repair site's view. Our data counts complaints per year, not per engine, so it cannot compare them.
Yes, several times. Road & Track reports a recall of almost 150,000 2024-2026 Mustangs for an engine-bay ground connection that may fracture and cut engine power, and autoevolution reports a separate 105,000-vehicle lighting recall for 2024-2025 cars. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
We don't rank generations. Our own numbers: the median is 4.98 NHTSA complaints per catalog listing for the 2005-2014 generation, 1.84 for 2015-2023 and 0.95 for 2024 onward. Those rates are not directly comparable across generations, because newer cars have had less time to collect complaints.
